Law enforcement officials have impounded 130 vehicles as part of a nationwide road safety initiative aimed at tackling uninsured driving within a county. Essex Police confiscated these vans, cars, and motorcycles between November 11 and 17, as part of a campaign named Op Drive Insured, which sought to remove drivers operating without insurance from the roadways. Surveillance operations were conducted in the western part of the county, and officers also maintained a stationary presence for two days at a specific location in Thurrock, Essex. A spokesperson for Essex Police indicated that a total of 3,089 uninsured vehicles had been seized by the force during the initial nine months of this year. In September, the monthly count of impounded vehicles reached its peak at 406, marking it as the highest recorded month. An Essex Police representative stated: “This multi-agency approach to the criminal use of our roads brings together a greater enforcement approach.” They added: “It means that unsafe vehicles – those with no insurance, tax or MOT, and are the most dangerous on our roads – are seized by officers to ensure road safety for all.” Copyright 2024 BBC.
