Pollard, having been absent from his team’s initial Pool 1 loss against Bordeaux Begles, registered one of the home side’s eight tries and achieved an unblemished kicking performance from the tee at Welford Road. The South African fly-half expertly directed the game and utilized his boot to find touch, setting up the Tigers’ initial two tries, both nearly identical rolling mauls, completed by captain Julian Montoya. A Sharks team, playing below full strength and without Pollard’s Springboks teammates Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth who remained in Durban, scored a try via Manu Tshituka; however, they posed little further threat as the home team asserted dominance. Ollie Hassell-Collins capitalized on an error of judgment by Eduan Keyter, preceding Solomone Kata’s midfield break that secured a bonus point within 34 minutes. Pollard scored the Tigers’ fifth try prior to halftime, and Jack van Poortvliet scored with a quick dart to ensure the team swiftly re-established momentum following the break. Ethan Hooker scored a consolation try for the Sharks at the 60-minute mark, but the Tigers concluded the scoring as replacements Charlie Clare and Emeka Ilione each scored from close range before full-time. The Tigers surpassed the Sharks in the standings with this decisive victory, ascending to second place, meanwhile, the South African team fell to fourth. Leicester had rested several of their stars in Bordeaux the previous weekend, but still displayed considerable commitment before a flurry of second-half tries broke their resolve. Head coach Michael Cheika saw the return of six international players for the match against the Sharks. The Sharks arrived in the east Midlands following a comfortable initial victory over Exeter, but were missing many of their frontline players. Siya Masuku put the visiting team ahead with an early penalty kick before Pollard, positioned deep within Tigers territory, identified space behind the Sharks’ defense and launched the ball long for an outstanding touch-finder. Montoya initiated the line-out throw before integrating into the maul, which continued its advance until it crossed the try line. Tshituka responded with a try from close range; however, another Pollard kick to touch led to another powerful rolling maul, allowing Montoya to score his second try using the identical method. The Sharks, aiming to learn from their earlier experiences, attempted to prevent another substantial Pollard kick from finding touch; however, as Keyter reached for the ball, his deflection behind him bounced upwards, allowing the pursuing Hassell-Collins to collect and score. Leicester advanced the ball purposefully across the field, combining power with technical skill, as Kata evaded a white-shirted opponent to glide through unchallenged, prior to Pollard linking with his half-back partner Van Poortvliet to score the fifth try. Scrum-half Van Poortvliet subsequently transitioned from assisting to scoring, capitalizing on an opportunity at the breakdown to score from close range. Replacements Charlie Clare and Emeka Ilione, who had performed commendably but unsuccessfully in Bordeaux, entered the match to score in the final nine minutes, completing a commanding Tigers performance. More significant challenges await Cheika’s team; however, this victory advanced the Tigers a step closer to securing a top-four finish and a place in the last 16.
