Jersey has maintained its dominant performance in Spain, securing a nine-wicket victory over the Czech Republic in under three overs, thereby extending their flawless streak in the European Cricket Championships. This win marks the islanders’ fifth consecutive success in the rain-impacted Challenger tournament, which has seen matches against Germany, Austria, and host nation Spain cancelled. Consequently, Jersey has advanced to Saturday’s knockout stage, leading the five-team group. During a match shortened to seven overs per side due to weather, Chloe Greechan and Grace Wetherall each claimed a wicket, restricting the Czech team to a total of 29-2. In response, Analise Merritt scored an unbeaten 17 runs, featuring two fours and a decisive six, as Jersey achieved 35-1 in 2.5 overs. This represents their second significant win against the Czechs, following a previous encounter on Tuesday where they chased a target of 22 runs in just 10 balls.
