A rescue organization that has assisted in saving numerous domestic rabbits, following the discovery of others deceased or injured in a field, has obtained contributions, treats, medications, and over 160 care packages. Lucky Bunny and Friends Rescue, situated in Dudley, is one of nine groups aiding the animals after their discovery in Chaddesley Corbett, Worcestershire, on Monday. The organization established an Amazon wish list, soliciting donations for 14 specific items. Personnel were delighted to discover 163 packages on their doorstep, sent by members of the public. “Never in our wildest dreams did we think we would ever receive a donation delivery this big,” the group posted on Facebook. “From the bottom of our hearts we cannot thank you all enough,” the post continued, adding, “we are lost for words.” The contributions included hay, rabbit food, treats, and digestive medication. Additionally, the group managed to vaccinate and neuter 17 of the animals. The group initially admitted 56 rabbits, though some have since been transferred to other organizations, including Shrewsbury Rabbit Rescue. The RSPCA reported finding the bodies of 23 rabbits in the field and is investigating the incident, while West Mercia Police confirmed its inquiries are continuing. RSPCA Inspector Boris Lassere stated that the rabbits had been living in a poor environment and exhibited numerous wounds, suggesting fighting among the group. “Any animal being deliberately left behind to fend for itself is a serious case of neglect, and it is increasingly shocking that so many rabbits are abandoned at the same time,” he remarked.
