English boxer Chantelle Cameron has stated that Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano might “run away” from facing her following her most recent triumph. Cameron’s professional record now stands at 20 victories from 21 bouts. On Saturday, Cameron successfully defended her interim WBC light-welterweight title by securing a unanimous decision victory over Patricia Berghult. The 33-year-old former world champion had previously expressed her ambition to challenge the winner of the upcoming Taylor versus Serrano bout for the undisputed title, which is set for 15 November. Following her victory in Birmingham on Saturday, Cameron commented to TNT Sports, stating, “I think I made a big statement there.” She further added, “I think that’s probably why I won’t get a shot at the belts for a long time, if they can avoid me.” Cameron displayed a dominant performance against Sweden’s Berghult, with the judges’ scorecards reflecting her superiority at 99-91, 100-90, and 98-92. This marked her 20th win in 21 professional fights. Cameron previously handed Taylor the sole defeat of her career in May last year. However, the Irish fighter subsequently won the rematch last November, reclaiming her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and IBO titles. Taylor is now scheduled for a rematch of her 2022 lightweight classic against Puerto Rico’s Serrano, which will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Cameron further stated, “I’m going to keep my eyes closely on that fight and I just hope I get the chance to fight for [the belts] again.” She continued, “But I’ve got to see what’s going to happen if I don’t get that shot because it’s boxing, I may not got that opportunity again. I may be avoided and run away from after today.” In a separate bout, Shabaz Masoud secured the most significant victory of his career, winning the IBO super-bantamweight title via a split decision against Liam Davies. While one judge scored the contest 115-113 for the reigning champion Davies, the remaining two judges scored it 115-113 and 116-112 in favor of Masoud. This outcome means the 28-year-old Masoud maintains an unbeaten record across 14 professional fights, whereas Davies, also 28, has now incurred his first defeat in 17 bouts.
