Organisers of a festive ice rink have made an attempt to establish a new world record for the highest number of Santas present on a rink simultaneously. The Somerset Clarks Village shopping outlet, located in Street, hosted an event on Thursday evening with the objective of having more than 142 “skating Santas” on the ice at the same time. It is believed that a total of 157 Santas participated on the rink throughout the evening, but the team must await confirmation of a new record. Chris Davis, the centre director of Clarks Village, stated: “It’s not an official record just yet, but we do believe we’ve beaten the most amount of Santas on ice at any one time.” He further elaborated: “Previously, it was 142 people and we think we’ve got just over 157.” Mr Davis also commented: “The festive ice rink at Clarks Village has proved to be enormously popular and for its third year we wanted a grand celebration to welcome its return.” Mandy, one of the individuals who took part in the challenge, remarked: “We love it. Ice skating makes it even better, and the twinkling lights.” Another mother informed the BBC: “My boys are just obsessed with Christmas. So I thought it was a really fun time to come down and let them see all the Santas.” The ice skating rink is scheduled to remain open until the first week of January.
