Midfielder Ephron Mason-Clark has stated that Coventry City’s recently appointed manager, Frank Lampard, has delivered exceptionally clear instructions during his initial days at the helm. Mason-Clark netted his inaugural goal for Coventry during their 2-2 stalemate against Cardiff. Lampard’s confirmation as manager occurred last Thursday, preceding his inaugural match by only two days. This game concluded in a 2-2 draw with Cardiff City, a fixture where Mason-Clark registered his first goal for the club following his transfer from Peterborough United. Taking over a squad assembled by Mark Robins, Lampard conducted only two training sessions at Ryton to communicate his preliminary tactical concepts for the team’s encounter with the Bluebirds. The newly appointed manager implemented two alterations to the Coventry lineup from their previous 2-0 defeat against Burnley. Notably, he transitioned the defensive formation from a back three to a four-man defence. “In the short space of time we’ve taken on a lot of tactics and ways of playing and it’s been very clear and quite simple really,” Mason-Clark informed BBC CWR. “With how competitive our squad is, having a person like that in the building is only going to amplify that and make every single training session and matchday competitive.” Lampard now benefits from the opportunity of a complete week with his players in anticipation of Saturday’s away fixture against Millwall, followed by next Wednesday’s match at West Bromwich Albion. Coventry currently holds a three-point advantage over the Championship’s relegation zone.
