The medieval bridge, which sustained damage when an Uber taxi became stuck on it following a collision with a barrier, has now reopened. According to Warwickshire County Council, the vehicle collided with the historic 15th-century bridge located on the B4085 Honeybourne Road in Bidford-on-Avon on August 10, resulting in substantial structural damage. Scaffolding had been put in place to assess the extent of the damage after the incident. Nevertheless, Jan Matecki, the council’s portfolio holder for transport and planning, announced that the closure had been removed, stating that the “complex and challenging project” was almost complete. “I’m delighted that the repair works on Bidford-on-Avon River Bridge are almost finished,” he said. “We’re grateful to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication in ensuring the bridge is restored to its former glory.”This is great news for local businesses and residents ahead of the Christmas period.” Additionally, a traffic management scheme at Binton Bridge has been taken down. Businesses in Bidford had previously reported losses of thousands of pounds in trade because of the bridge’s closure.
