A fishing facility has initiated Halloween-themed activities as a strategy to manage increasing expenditures. Partridge Lakes Fishery, located in Culcheth, Warrington, is hosting its Halloween Trail event nightly until 31 October. Barbara Ikin, representing the site, stated that the choice was driven by “panic” over shrinking profit margins experienced every winter. She explained, “It’s just trying to find that really nice balance of having things on the side that can support [the fishery] but not interfere with it.” Ms. Ikin described the operational expenses for the 70-acre property as “phenomenal.” She elaborated, “As things got tighter, margins got smaller, each winter I was watching this trend and it was getting harder and harder.” She added, “We are constantly outlaying, so I thought ‘let’s put something in to support it’.” The concept for a Halloween lakeside trail was developed by Ms. Ikin in collaboration with her friend and business partner, Callum Morgan. Approximately 100 individuals will be employed by these events. Ms. Ikin further commented, “The balance with the anglers and visitors has been really good.” She continued, “We are open really lucky to be on such a big site.” She also stated, “We are starting on one-third of it, and plan to keep growing over the next few years.” Concluding, she remarked, “It’s just having that bit on the side that helps.” To access the best of BBC Radio Merseyside, use Sounds, and follow BBC Merseyside on Facebook, X, and Instagram.
