A planning application has been lodged for the transformation of two council-owned properties into a riverside redevelopment, signifying further progress for a town centre regeneration initiative in Surrey. The proposal by Mole Valley District Council for the Leatherhead site involves the demolition of Claire House and James House, both located on Bridge Street. McCarthy Stone, specialists in retirement properties, aims to develop 37 residential units, alongside a ground-floor cafe and a community area. A spokesperson for the council characterized the project as a “landmark mixed-use riverside development.” The submitted plans also detail enhancements to the existing car park and the landscaping of the area situated in front of the building. Councillor Keira Vyvyan-Robinson, who serves as the cabinet member for property and projects, stated: “The project will improve the western gateway to the town and enhance the area around the River Mole.” This application represents the subsequent phase in the regeneration of the locality and the improvement of the riverside zone, which is a core undertaking of Transform Leatherhead. In October, Mole Valley District Council endorsed its local plan, which authorized the construction of 6,000 new homes.
