A man, representing the third generation of his family to volunteer for Bridlington RNLI, is among the recipients of a King’s Coronation Medal. These accolades were presented to volunteer members of the lifeboat crew who had accumulated five years of service by the time of the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla on 6 May 2023. Among those attending the presentation on 4 November was volunteer helm Ash Traves, who was accompanied by four generations of his family. His grandmother, Margaret, has served as a volunteer at the station for many years, and his father, Chris, is a launch authority and shore crew volunteer there. Mr. Traves also brought his two young sons to the ceremony, with the RNLI expressing hope that they might one day become the fourth generation of volunteers at Bridlington. Volunteer mechanic James Mather also received the King’s Coronation Medal, attending the presentation with his wife and their newborn son, Lucas. Mr. Mather commented: “To receive the King’s Medal at the station was our first trip out of the house as a family of three, and will be remembered as a special occasion.” The medals were presented by Steve Clarke, the volunteer lifeboat operations manager.
