Newport County anticipates the return of Anthony Glennon, Hamzad Kargbo, and Kyle Jameson for their League Two match against Wimbledon on Tuesday evening. Glennon, a left-back, recommenced training on Friday following his recovery from a back injury. Forward Kargbo has been sidelined for over three months because of a shoulder injury. Additionally, centre-back Kyle Jameson is cleared to play against the Dons at Plough Lane, having completed a suspension. Bobby Kamwa and Noah Mawene are also nearing their comebacks from injuries. Head coach Nelson Jardim stated, “Bobby is now in the final phase of his recovery in the medical department.” He added, “Glennon is back with us and is available for selection. Noah will be starting with us on Monday, so we expect he will be another week.” Jardim further confirmed, “Hamzad is fully fit, he’s available for selection. The other one is Jamo [Jameson] who is also back after his suspension.” Wimbledon presently holds the fourth and last play-off position in League Two. Although Johnnie Jackson’s team is positioned nine places higher than Newport, who are 16th, they are only five points ahead of the Exiles. Nevertheless, Jardim considers Wimbledon strong contenders for promotion to the third tier this season. Jardim commented, “It’s not a huge gap [to Wimbledon].” He reflected, “When I look back to the last two home games where we missed two penalties, it makes you think. But we are where we are and we have to look to ourselves and how we can improve.” He also described Wimbledon, saying, “They’re [Wimbledon] one of the main contenders, definitely. You expect them to be competitive. “It’s a fit squad, they know what they’re doing and they have a very clear way of playing. They make it very hard for any team playing against them.”” Wimbledon striker Matty Stevens has demonstrated exceptional form this season, having scored 12 goals in 23 matches across all competitions. While Jardim acknowledges the former Forest Green Rovers frontman’s abilities, the Newport head coach conceded that his players cannot concentrate exclusively on Stevens. Jardim further stated, “He’s a good player, he’s shown that with his good record.” He elaborated, “When you plan to stop one player you forget about the team.” He concluded, “Obviously we know why he is scoring and how the goals came but the approach we have is that you have to stop them as a team, not only as an individual.” Midfielder Aaron Wildig continues to be out of play due to a knee injury. The match is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday at 19:45 GMT.
