A schoolteacher based in Lincolnshire has been found guilty of sexually assaulting 14 boys. Jack Smith, 28, was convicted on 39 charges following a three-week trial at Lincoln Crown Court. These offenses encompassed 30 sexual assaults targeting 14 boys and nine charges of sexual communication with a child. Smith, residing at Pleasance Way, Manby, near Louth, was granted conditional bail ahead of his sentencing, set for 17 January. Judge Simon Hirst declared: “You will a receive a sentence of imprisonment, the issue is how long that sentence will be.” Judge Hirst also specified that Smith would be prohibited from working with children or any vulnerable person. Jurors were informed that Smith commenced his employment as a probationary teacher in September 2019. He was suspended in March 2024 subsequent to sexual allegations being brought against him. These allegations involved inappropriately touching boys and inquiring about their frequency of viewing pornography. To protect their anonymity, the name of the school where Smith worked and the ages of the victims cannot be disclosed. During the trial proceedings, jurors were instructed to find Smith not guilty of five additional sexual assault charges. In his testimony, Smith conceded that much of the behavior described by the boys had indeed taken place, but he contended it was not sexually motivated and that any discussion of sexual matters was “innocent.” He exhibited little reaction as the jury delivered unanimous guilty verdicts.
