Amazon World Zoo Park has launched an urgent appeal for assistance following the escape of four raccoons from their enclosure. The zoo is urging residents in Sandown on the Isle of Wight to be vigilant for the animals. The head keeper has advised individuals who spot the animals not to approach them, but instead to contact the zoo directly. The four female raccoons, all 18 months old and sisters, arrived at the facility three weeks prior. In a statement released on social media, the zoo requested that local residents inspect sheds, bonfire piles, hedges, and trees, explaining that the animals typically rest during daylight hours and become active as dusk approaches. The zoo clarified that raccoons are “not normally aggressive” but acknowledged that the escaped sisters might be frightened. One raccoon remained within the enclosure and did not escape, the zoo added.
