Lampard Community School in Barnstaple, Devon, has reported experiencing a cyber-attack and an attempt at “blackmail” by hackers. The school stated it is addressing the incident “extremely seriously,” adding: “The school is being blackmailed by external criminals intent on stealing information.” Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that officers are aware of the incident and that investigations are currently underway. The school further stated: “The police are aware, and all relevant authorities have been informed.” It also assured stakeholders: “Please be assured that everyone is taking this extremely seriously as the safety of the data we hold is of the upmost importance.” The school concluded its statement by saying: “Thank you for all your support, and we will update you on the situation when we are able to do so.” Police officials indicated: “Anyone who is affected by the incident will be contacted by Lampard Community School in due course.” The Information Commissioner’s Office has been contacted by the BBC for a statement regarding the matter.
