A magazine, *Loaded*, was established thirty years ago, and some observers assert that it played a defining role in 1990s lad culture. *Loaded* featured a combination of irreverent humor and celebrity interviews, complemented by provocative photographs. At its peak, it achieved monthly sales exceeding 400,000 copies and was twice recognized as magazine of the year. Tim Southwell, a co-founder of the magazine based in Sussex, stated that “no-one had ever seen anything like it.” He authored a book detailing the magazine’s eventful history and is featured in the BBC documentary *Loaded: Lads, Mags and Mayhem*. Mr. Southwell, currently residing in Lindfield, remarked that *Loaded* exerted a “seismic impact on the 90s,” a decade characterized by the rise of Britpop, Cool Britannia, and a newfound national confidence. Mr. Southwell commented, “The readers had this empathy and they were part of a big national gang.” Prior to selecting *Loaded*, creators James Brown, Mick Bunnage, and Tim Southwell explored alternative titles such as *Rogue* and *The Right Stuff*. Ultimately, they decided on the name *Loaded*, which they found to be, well, loaded with meaning, in 1994. The magazine’s publication, alongside other “lads’ mags,” drew criticism due to its inclusion of photographs of scantily-clad women in every edition. Speaking to BBC South East, Mr. Southwell described the magazine as “a massive celebration,” adding, “The whole thing was so hedonistic. We were basically paid to go out and have a good time.” Mr. Southwell reflects with nostalgia on a remarkable period spent with celebrities. He recounted, “My favourite memory was the night I played tambourine in Paul Weller’s band,” and concluded, “That was the moment I thought it was never going to get any better.” *Loaded* continued its existence for over two decades. Its final print edition was released in 2015, after which it transitioned to an online format, adapting to evolving times and trends. Three decades later, *Loaded* continues to be recognized as a publishing phenomenon and a cultural indicator of its era. Tim Southwell regards his time with the lads’ mag with fondness. He stated, “I think the spirit of Loaded would be appreciated today. But the world is a very different place. I’m really proud of that connection it had with people.” Post navigation Audience Invited to Comment on Arsenal’s 3-2 Victory Over Crystal Palace Hampshire & Isle of Wight: Daily Photo Feature
