The new gritting lorries in Herefordshire have received their names, chosen through a competition organized for local children. Nearly 100 children participated in the contest during October. Among the selected names are Taylor Drift, Who Dares Grits, and Ready Salted. The children whose entries were chosen received an invitation to the depot, where they could view their respective gritters and collect a unique registration plate featuring the gritter’s name. Lottie, one of the winners, expressed that she was “over the moon” upon learning her name had been selected. She stated, “I like Taylor Swift, so thought about how I could create a name from that and the word ‘drift’ came to me.” Lottie added, “I enjoyed the naming event and especially the chance to sit in Taylor Drift and be shown around and find out how the gritting all works.” Robyn, another participant whose entry was chosen, commented on her appreciation for the gritters’ bright lights and colours.
