Construction has commenced on an £11 million initiative in Rotherham, designed to enhance the availability of independent living facilities. This development is set to feature a new day care facility and thirteen council-owned residences, specifically configured to assist wheelchair users, elderly individuals, and those with particular health requirements. The location for this project, situated on Warden Street in Canklow, previously contained abandoned residential buildings until their demolition in 2009. Chris Read, the council leader, stated: “The council is committed to developing services for people with complex and specialist support needs and this development will deliver just that, enabling better life outcomes for people to lead independent lives.” O&P Construction is undertaking the work at the site, with completion anticipated in spring 2026. Andy Marshall, contracts director for O&P Construction, commented: “As a local business it’s a pleasure to partner with Rotherham Council on this development, working collaboratively, we can ensure the project meets the needs of the borough.”
