Everton manager Brian Sorensen has provided an update on teenager Issy Hobson, stating she is “better” after being admitted to hospital for a concussion following the team’s defeat by Liverpool on Wednesday. Everton has recorded a win in one of their nine WSL fixtures played thus far. Hobson, aged 17, sustained the injury when she was hit in the face with the ball during the 4-0 defeat. She resumed her duties on Thursday and is currently adhering to concussion protocols. Consequently, she will be unavailable for Sunday’s Women’s Super League encounter against Manchester City. However, Everton receives a positive development with the return of Karen Holmgaard to training. Sorensen commented, “We will try and see if we can finish [before the Christmas break] with a good result.” He added, concerning their upcoming opponents, “Despite the injuries [Manchester City] have, they are playing really well at the moment. Their positional play is second to none, so we will have to be super sharp.” Additional significant points from his press conference, held prior to Sunday’s Women’s Super League match (scheduled for a 12:30 GMT kick-off), included: Sorensen indicated that Everton must become “better offensively,” a facet they have been addressing in training sessions. He maintained that it is “hard to score against us” and expressed his desire for his squad to maintain discipline for the entire 90 minutes when facing City. The club maintains its confidence that the takeover will be finalized prior to the new year; however, Sorensen stated he could offer “no update” on the matter. While the takeover could potentially influence their transfer activities, the team is aware of its desired targets. Sorensen emphasized that new players are required “throughout the squad” to address long-term injury concerns. He further specified that it is “most likely not” the intention to sell any players in January to facilitate new signings, a strategy that was also employed this summer.
