An HGV operator faces charges subsequent to their vehicle veering from the A74(M) motorway and landing on the railway line close to Gretna. The occurrence, which prompted the closure of the rail route connecting Gretna and Carlisle around 08:00, saw the deployment of emergency personnel. The individual operating the vehicle was transported to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary. Law enforcement officials confirmed that the driver had been accused of a road traffic violation. ScotRail suspended services along the affected route for an 11-hour duration while repair work was underway. Replacement bus services were arranged for passengers. The southbound carriageway in the vicinity of Gretna was restricted to a single lane, and the access ramp for junction 22 was shut to facilitate the retrieval of the heavy goods vehicle. Network Rail reported receiving notifications regarding a lorry situated on the tracks near the Gretna interchange just after 08:00. A spokesperson stated: “The West Coast Main Line (WCML) and Glasgow to Dumfries line were closed as a precaution until our teams arrived on site and investigations were carried out. “Normal working resumed on WCML from 08:46.”Our teams remain on site and are supporting our partners to reopen the line as soon as it is safe to do so.” Rail services operating from Carlisle to Glasgow and Dumfries recommenced shortly after 19:00. ScotRail commented: “The line has now reopened at a reduced speed, pending further repair work being carried out.” The Scottish Ambulance Service indicated that its personnel had been dispatched to the scene of the incident close to junction 22 of the motorway. A spokesperson confirmed: “We dispatched one ambulance and one paramedic response unit (PRU) to the scene.”One patient was transported to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary.” The A74 was completely reopened to vehicular traffic around 19:30. Police Scotland extended gratitude to motorists for their understanding.
