A sixth individual has been taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the murder of a taxi driver, who was fatally shot in his vehicle over three decades ago. Ethsham Ul-Haq Ghafoor was discovered in his car, with his hands restrained and secured to the steering wheel, in Nottinghamshire during the early hours of November 22, 1994. The 26-year-old victim, known as Shami, was found by a milkman at approximately 04:30 GMT at Lambley Lane Playing Fields in Gedling. Nottinghamshire Police reported that a 43-year-old man from Sneinton was apprehended on Tuesday. This follows the arrests in November of four men, aged 64, 57, 52, and 51, and a 47-year-old woman. These detentions occurred mere days after the police force announced its decision to reopen the investigation into Mr. Ghafoor’s death, offering a £50,000 reward for pertinent information. All suspects have since been released on bail as further inquiries proceed. Detective Chief Inspector Clare Dean, who is overseeing the investigation, stated: “The investigation is continuing at pace and we would like to personally thank the local community for coming forward with information and the media for sharing our appeal.” She added, “We believe the answer to Shami’s murder still lies within the community and would encourage anyone with information who has not already been in touch to please come forward.” According to police, Mr. Ghafoor, a resident of Sherwood Rise in Nottingham, was last observed in Carlton Square around 02:00. The father, who had a five-year-old son, was expecting a baby daughter at the time of his death. While multiple arrests were made following his death, no individual has ever been convicted in connection with the case.
