The owners of an urban farm have issued a warning that the financially struggling establishment could cease operations by the close of the current year. Neil Campbell and Joanna Holbrook-Morris stated that £40,000 is required to prevent the closure of Nunny’s Farm in Grimsby, expressing concern that a majority of the animals would face euthanasia if these additional funds are not secured. Ms Holbrook-Morris commented on the situation, stating, “A lot of animals that we’ve rescued, we were their second chance.” She further questioned, “Where are they going to go if we have to fold?” Located on the Nunsthorpe estate, the farm has attracted over 100,000 visitors since its establishment in 2021. Beyond its role as a tourist destination, it also engages with veterans and children who are not in mainstream education, operates a mini-farmers club, and provides sanctuary for unwanted animals. Mr Campbell emphasized the farm’s core mission, stating, “The whole farm is built around and for mental health.” To secure the farm’s future, the owners have initiated a fundraising campaign. They attributed some of their financial difficulties over the last year to adverse weather conditions and flooding. According to Mr Campbell, the farm’s expenses increased by £20,000 last April, a consequence of the rise in the minimum wage. Following recent budget announcements, the farm is now “facing another £14,000 increase” in costs. He further commented, “I don’t see where that is going to come from,” explaining, “We tried to fund it last year through personal loans which are still outstanding, so that’s not an option for us any more.” Ms Holbrook-Morris stated, “The animals would have to be put down.” She elaborated on the difficulty of relocation, adding, “The majority of them will not be able to be relocated because of Bluetongue [virus], which means we can’t move cows, alpacas, sheep or goats out of the area.” The owners are actively seeking external investment. Mr Campbell remarked, “This is my life’s work. It’s everything.” Post navigation Plymouth Garage Fire Prompts Resident Evacuations Endangered Crayfish Quarantined Amidst Fatal Illness Outbreak
