Sonia Bompastor, Chelsea’s manager, has voiced her ambition for the team to achieve a state where winning “become easy” by sustaining their successful performance in European competitions. This aspiration follows Chelsea’s current streak of 11 consecutive victories under her leadership. The Frenchwoman assumed her role from Emma Hayes during the summer, and since then, Chelsea has secured 11 successive wins, placing them at the top of the Women’s Super League (WSL) standings. A 3-0 victory against Celtic in the Women’s Champions League on Wednesday ensured their progression to the quarter-finals, with two group stage matches still remaining. Bompastor stated, “As a club it’s always important to make sure after four games you have the opportunity to qualify.” She continued, “That’s perfect, even if tonight you saw everything was not perfect – but in terms of results we are in a good place. “It’s good because once again it brings a lot of confidence. It is important for us to continue our run. There are a lot of positives.” Bompastor also remarked, “It’s important to work hard so things can become easy, even if they are not easy.” For the match, Bompastor implemented six alterations to the starting lineup that had played in their significant WSL victory against Manchester City the previous weekend, allowing her to provide rest for important players. Furthermore, she gave a debut appearance to 17-year-old Lola Brown, who had signed her initial professional contract with the team earlier in the week. Bompastor further commented, “I am really happy. I told my players it was a good opportunity for us to qualify for the quarter-finals and we did that,” adding, “We remain top of the [European] table which is also something we wanted to make sure we achieved. It is great news. “We were able to rotate the squad and could also rest some players thinking about the Manchester United game [on Sunday].”
