Lopetegui Reflects on ‘Unlucky Decisions’ Following West Ham Defeat

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui shared his thoughts with BBC Match of the Day after the team’s loss, stating: “Overall, I am frustrated with the first-half. We deserved two goals, but they didn’t deserve five.” He added, “We were unlucky in the decisions, in my opinion. The first goal, I think it was a block.” Addressing the foul by Lukasz Fabianksi on Gabriel inside the penalty area, Lopetegui commented: “I think it was a bit soft. We were unlucky. We have to do better for sure. We didn’t make good decisions in a defensive way – that’s why it was a strange match.” The coach acknowledged the team’s effort, saying, “The team showed character to compete. We were unlucky with the decisions today. We asked before the match, the referee with the block, as a coach we have to know the limit.” He further emphasized, “This week we have to do better in our individual actions, in a defensive way.” Regarding his experience of observing the match from the stands, Lopetegui expressed: “It is always difficult to not stay on the bench because you can’t help the team, and I was very frustrated.”
