A young male was hospitalized after being stabbed in a West Sussex park on Thursday evening. Sussex Police described his injuries as “serious” but confirmed they were not life-threatening, and requested that anyone with information assist their ongoing inquiry. This event, which prompted police to briefly implement stop and search and dispersal orders, occurred only weeks after a separate stabbing on 7 October and five robberies documented in the same park between 24 September and 3 October. A local mother expressed concern, stating she felt unsafe and had instructed her children to stay away from the park, adding that she was “disgusted” by the violence. She commented, “I don’t feel safe walking my dog when its dark.” She further stated, “I don’t let my kids come and play down here on their own.” and “They’re not able to walk down the street on their own and it’s really affecting our lives.” Authorities reported an increase in park patrols since early October, deploying additional resources in an effort to deter criminal activity. Regarding the 7 October stabbing, a 20-year-old man from Crawley, an 18-year-old man from East Grinstead, and a 21-year-old man from Crawley were all apprehended. They have since been granted bail under stringent conditions. Four individuals were arrested concerning the robberies that occurred in the park between 24 September and 3 October. Two men, aged 19 and 20, were released without further action. A 17-year-old boy from London was released under investigation, and an 18-year-old man from Crawley was released on bail. Chief Inspector James Davidson stated: “I will be conducting meetings with other key members of the community to step up security and safety in the park area. This trend of increased crime cannot, and will not, continue.“We are engaging with local secondary schools to provide crime prevention advice and reassurance and I will be issuing a letter to parents and students to provide further information.” BBC South East has reached out to the South East Coast Ambulance Service for additional details.
