Construction has commenced on a new sports facility in East Sussex, made possible by a £3.5 million grant provided by the Premier League, The FA, and the government’s Football Foundation. The Wealden Community Sports Hub, being built by Sunninghill Contractors, is projected to be finished in 2026. Located near Hailsham, the facility will feature two full-sized artificial football pitches with floodlighting, four floodlit courts adaptable for both netball and tennis, and two padel tennis courts. Kelvin Williams, who serves as the district council’s lead for public health and asset management, stated that the location would be a “fantastic asset for all Wealden residents”. Additionally, the site will include a skate park and a cafe. It will be run as a not-for-profit venture by the charity Leisure United and overseen by The National Football Trust. All excess revenue generated by the facility will be channeled back into local grassroots sports initiatives.
