Over 50 tractors adorned with festive lights have traversed the thoroughfares of north Warwickshire and Coventry, aiming to collect donations for local charitable causes. The initial leg of this year’s Christmas Tractor Run, organized by the Sheepy & District Ploughing Association, took place on Friday evening, with further participation scheduled for Saturday. This yearly procession of vehicles, currently in its sixth iteration, is scheduled to pass through Nuneaton, Fillongley, Coventry, and Bedworth during its second night. Martin Brandreth, who serves as the chairman of the association, stated that farmers participate both to contribute to the community and to spread festive joy. The itinerary for Friday evening involved the tractors assembling close to Fenny Drayton before proceeding to villages situated near Atherstone and Polesworth. Mr. Brandreth commented, “Within the farming community, we love giving back.” He further explained that the tractor run serves as a chance to generate funds for charity and to extend goodwill and Christmas spirit to individuals. “The biggest thing for us is when we’re driving round and everyone is cheering,” he remarked. He added, “You can hear the kids screaming and almost crying with excitement and you never stop waving. Your arm is basically dropping off by the end of it.” He described the sensation as phenomenal, stating, “You could almost cry with the amount of good feeling you get.” The current year’s event is dedicated to collecting funds for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, the Air Ambulance Service, which provides coverage across multiple counties including Warwickshire, and Len’s Light, an initiative focused on increasing awareness of mental health challenges within rural communities.
