Town Centre Renovation Completed to Facilitate More Events

A town centre high street has undergone a completed renovation, with the goal of facilitating an increased number of events in the locality. The refurbishment of Norton High Street, situated in Stockton, Teesside, was conceived to enhance traffic movement and establish additional pedestrian zones. These alterations are anticipated to enable a greater variety of outdoor leisure pursuits, including pop-up markets. Nigel Cooke, representing Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council, stated that the infrastructure enhancements were necessary to “ensure everyone continues to have the best experience.” He further commented, “This work is so important for futureproofing Norton and ensuring it is fit for purpose for future generations,” adding, “It’s fantastic to see the finished result.” The project encompassed several specific modifications, such as the implementation of a 20mph speed limit and the placement of a fountain within the duck pond. A substantial pedestrian area has been established at Harland Place, designated for hosting events, alongside the installation of new benches and bins along High Street. Adjustments to the road network involve the introduction of a one-way traffic system and the provision of six additional parking spaces. Furthermore, the car park located opposite Boots has undergone resurfacing. This undertaking forms a component of broader initiatives aimed at developing six town centres throughout the borough.
