Award-winning football writer Henry Winter has indicated that Derby County’s initial performance upon their return to the Championship should encourage the Rams to set more ambitious goals within the league standings. After 15 games, the Rams currently sit in 12th position in the table, four points clear of the relegation places and six points shy of the play-off spots. Winter told BBC East Midlands Today, “I think a few people were thinking they would struggle, so actually they are doing pretty well,” further remarking, “And why shouldn’t they look up? “I mean, it’s such a basket case of a division in terms of recruitment, in terms of decisions – it’s actually quite nice to watch because there isn’t VAR.” Derby’s upcoming match, their first since the international break, will be an away fixture against Preston North End on Saturday.
