A motorcyclist has been incarcerated after crashing following a high-speed attempt to flee from police, reaching speeds over 100mph. Joshua Kirby, aged 35, was initially observed by law enforcement personnel driving incorrectly around a roundabout in Broxtowe, Nottinghamshire, at approximately 22:20 BST on August 31. Nottinghamshire Police stated that he did not stop and instead accelerated, subsequently misjudging a turn in Moorgreen and colliding with a tree. Kirby, who sustained a fractured spine, broken ribs, and a dislocated shoulder in the collision, received a sentence of two years and eight months imprisonment at Nottingham Crown Court on Friday. He had previously entered guilty pleas for dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance, and was also determined to have violated a suspended sentence order. Kirby, whose address is Easegill Court in Top Valley, Nottingham, was prohibited from driving for a period of five years and two months and is mandated to pass an extended driving retest prior to regaining his driving eligibility. PC Natalie Short commented that Kirby had “put everyone on the roads with him in danger”. She further remarked, “He suffered serious injuries as a result of his actions and it’s fortunate he didn’t cause any injury to others sharing the roads with him.”
