Approval has been granted for proposals to construct over 70 new retirement residences on a former garage forecourt. These plans involve the demolition of the existing TC Harrison Ford Garage, located on Cambridge Street in St Neots. An official inquiry regarding this development took place earlier this month, prompted by Huntingdonshire District Council’s delay in issuing a timely decision. Local residents had previously expressed apprehension concerning the proposed development’s height. The project is designed to comprise 57 flats, 16 cottages, and shared amenities. The developer stated that the nation is experiencing a “rapidly growing and ageing population,” asserting that their plans would provide “much needed retirement living apartments.” A single objector voiced worries that the new residential structures, owing to their height, would “seek to dominate” the street. A planning inspector gave approval to the application following an appeal lodged by the developer. This appeal was initiated because Huntingdonshire District Council failed to issue a decision within the stipulated timeframe, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The inspector took into account the objections regarding the development’s potential effects on adjacent residents and historical structures nearby, but ultimately concluded that the new residences would not cause harm.
