Chris Waddle, a former winger for the Magpies, asserted that Newcastle’s lack of European football commitments heading into the Carabao Cup semi-finals provides a “big advantage.” This past Wednesday, Eddie Howe’s squad secured their position in the final four of the competition, alongside Arsenal, Liverpool, and either Manchester United or Tottenham, following a decisive victory over Brentford. Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast, Waddle remarked, “The win will give Newcastle a lot of confidence.” He further added, “If they can now put a nice little run together going into the semi-final then they will be in a good place.” Waddle elaborated on the importance of momentum, stating, “When you’re a team who plays on the front foot and you have a lot of talented footballers, you need confidence and results. Scoring and creating breeds more confidence.” He then drew a comparison to the club’s past performance, noting, “That’s what we saw from Newcastle a while back. When they were challenging for the top four, that is what they were all about and they lost that. “But, it seems to be coming back.”” Waddle further explained the specific advantage for Newcastle, highlighting that the other semi-finalists are all engaged in European competitions. This means more fixtures, greater demands on their squads, potential for injuries, and divided priorities. He concluded by stating, “With Newcastle, it is seeing how high they can go in the Premier League and then they can have a free hit at the two cups. “This is a big advantage as well. Newcastle are in a good position.” Post navigation Kyren Wilson Secures Northern Ireland Open Title Against Judd Trump Celtic’s Dominant Performance Delivers Reality Check to Aberdeen
