A yearly art display is presenting the creations of artists from Guernsey. The Guernsey Arts Open exhibition began on Saturday at the George Crossan Gallery, situated in St Peter Port’s Market Building. The exhibition, scheduled to continue until the end of the year, showcases paintings, photography, sculptures, and mixed-media art pieces. Russ Fossey, head of arts development, remarked that the “diverse exhibition” celebrates the “breadth of creative talent we have here within the Bailiwick and goes from strength to strength each year”. “The open has come to be known as a place where artistic friendships are forged and brings together artists of all ages,” he added. Approximately 180 digital and physical artworks were chosen for the exhibition, featuring artists ranging from students and first-time participants to experienced professionals, as stated by a spokesperson for the gallery. A prominent feature of this year’s exhibition is a papier mâché caricature of John Gollop, Guernsey’s longest-serving deputy, who is locally recognized for his distinctive style and trademark carrier bag. Guernsey Arts recently took over the operation of the George Crossan Gallery for the upcoming five years. The free exhibition is accessible daily until the close of the year, from 09:00 to 17:00 GMT, including on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Follow BBC Guernsey on X and Facebook.
