A senior police official has been identified as the prospective leader for the highest position in a nearby county. Andy Prophet, currently the deputy chief constable at Essex Police, has been named the favored candidate for the chief constable role in Hertfordshire. Should he successfully complete a conclusive panel review and a vetting procedure, he is expected to assume the position in the new year. Mr. Prophet stated that it was an “honour” to have been chosen. He remarked, “I have been impressed by the energy and passion of everyone I have spoken to in the constabulary.” He added, “I am looking forward to working alongside all the officers, staff and volunteers, building on strong relationships with our partners, and enhancing the policing we provide for communities across Hertfordshire.” Additionally, he serves as the National Police Chief Council (NPCC) lead responsible for addressing anti-social behaviour. Mr. Prophet’s tenure in the force spans 28 years, with his initial decade spent as a patrol constable, followed by roles as a response team and custody sergeant. Jonathan Ash-Edwards, the Conservative police and crime commissioner for Hertfordshire, commented on the “very strong calibre” of individuals who applied. The selection process has been underway for the last four months, initiated after the current Chief Constable Charlie Hall declared his retirement. Ash-Edwards stated, “Mr Prophet has already made an excellent contribution to policing in his current roles and, throughout the process, demonstrated the qualities that I was looking for.” The definitive appointment is contingent upon a confirmation meeting with the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Panel scheduled for Thursday, alongside satisfactory vetting checks.
