Tamworth Borough Council Finalizes Acquisition of Ankerside Shopping Centre

Tamworth Borough Council has announced the finalization of an agreement to assume control of the Ankerside Shopping Centre. The council stated that this transfer of ownership occurred through a mutual understanding, with the deal officially concluded on Friday. According to the authority, REI Nederland B.V, the former owner, transferred the shopping centre without any financial payment from the council. Councillor Nova Arkney, who holds the portfolio for local economy, stated that the council is actively working to guarantee a seamless transition for the centre’s tenants. Ms. Arkney remarked, “We’re committed to seeing a town centre fit for the future, and this move seeks to provide stability and reassurance to Ankerside tenants and shoppers and to secure the long-term future of the shopping centre in the heart of our town centre.” She added, “We have plans to invigorate the centre and are supported by NewRiver, a listed specialist owner and manager of retail destinations, in developing this.” REI Nederland B.V indicated that it had collaborated with Tamworth Borough Council for the preceding 24 months to facilitate this arrangement. This deal involved the council obtaining the leasehold for the centre, given that it already possessed the freehold for the property.
