The North East Lincolnshire Council has announced the removal of a vandalized donkey sculpture in Cleethorpes, which will undergo an assessment for potential repairs. Named Dudley the donkey, the artwork was placed in Pier Gardens in 2012. Its purpose was to commemorate Gladys Nuttall, who, alongside her husband Buster, initiated donkey rides on Cleethorpes beach during the 1940s. According to North East Lincolnshire Council, the “much-loved” statue has sustained damage, including its ears being broken off due to “occasional acts of vandalism,” and deterioration caused by “harsh” weather conditions prevalent on the seafront. Citing “extensive damage,” the council stated that the sculpture will be sent back to its creator, artist Donna Peterson, who will evaluate “whether further repairs are viable.” The council also indicated that it is collaborating with Ms Peterson to move the artwork to a location where it would be secure from vandals. The authority further stated, “Should he be repaired, further research will be carried out to determine where he will be reinstalled to ensure he is preserved for future generations.” Post navigation March, Cambridgeshire, Receives Another Leaning Christmas Tree Following Public Demand Basketball Game Proposal Draws Enthusiastic Response
