The company operating the cross-Solent hovercraft service is examining strategies to reduce expenditures. This initiative stems from a decrease in passenger volumes and “challenging economic conditions”. Hovertravel provides services connecting Southsea and Ryde on the Isle of Wight. It announced that a forthcoming review would examine both its timetable and staffing levels across all departments. The objective is “to identify cost efficiencies to ensure a sustainable future”. The firm, established nearly 60 years ago, reported a “continued decline” in the number of individuals traveling on its craft since the onset of the pandemic. In a released statement, it indicated that “ongoing challenging economic conditions” and measures outlined in the recent budget also contributed to the decision to review its operations.
