Ipswich Town secured a commanding 13-0 win against MK Dons at Felixstowe in the Women’s National League, a result described as one of the club’s most impressive historically. Sophie Peskett, who became Ipswich’s first professional player in the summer of 2021, played a crucial role in this match. Manager Joe Sheehan commended his team for their respectful approach towards their opponents and for achieving the win with “reasonably good humility.” Sophie Peskett notably contributed four goals within 32 minutes, helping Sheehan’s squad establish a 7-0 advantage by the half-time interval. Although Peskett was later substituted, the team went on to score six additional goals, with Issy Bryant netting the final one in the concluding minute of the match. Currently positioned third in the Southern Premier table with a goal difference of +33 after eight games, Town is scheduled to meet the Dons once more in the Women’s FA Cup first round next Sunday. Ipswich had entered this match following a 1-0 home loss in the WNL Cup against current holders Hashtag United the previous weekend. Peskett secured the early lead for Ipswich. Beyond her four goals and Bryant’s final strike, the remaining goals were scored by Leah Mitchell, Natasha Thomas, Maisy Barker (2), Lucy O’Brien (2), Eloise King, and an own-goal. “We tried to make good use of the spaces available to our players, and then it was about trying to create some clear chances for our attacking players to put the ball in the net,” Sheehan stated to BBC Radio Suffolk. He continued, “We were able to to that quite consistently and it’s resulted in a big win for us.” Sheehan also remarked, “We wanted to improve on last week and really dialled into the game for the duration.” Sheehan acknowledged that matches ending with such a significant scoreline can lead to “uncomfortable viewing.” He further commented, “No-one likes to see results, particularly at this level, with the margin that big.” “We won, I think, with a reasonably good humility which is difficult when the scoreline suggests it was incredibly one-sided,” he explained, adding, “The scoreline is a byproduct of the relentless work we put in in our training weeks.” In the Southern Premier, Ipswich trails leaders Hashtag by five points and Oxford United by three points, though they possess a game in hand over both teams.
