The Jersey Football Association (FA) has expressed approval for the establishment of a new sports travel fund. Tim Pryor, CEO of the FA, characterized the £300,000 fund as “excellent”. This development follows the States of Jersey’s decision on Thursday to endorse a proposal by Deputy Raluka Kovacs for the creation of the fund, intended to assist sportspeople participating in competitions abroad. Mr. Pryor stated, “Those costs add up and these people are proudly representing our island overseas, and I think it is going to be excellent that more money is coming their way.” He further commented that the fund “can help competitors off-island to better themselves, challenge themselves and test themselves.” According to organisers, the fund will enable athletes competing internationally to claim as much as £1,000 for travel expenses, starting in 2025. Deputy Kovacs had initially proposed a fund amounting to £500,000 but agreed to a smaller fund as a compromise offered by ministers. She remarked, “We are very quick to celebrate when these hard-working individuals bring medals for Jersey but often overlook their sacrifice and the support they need to get there.”
