Residents of a village have undertaken a challenge, with 15 individuals posing nude for a charity calendar. Initially, the men from Denton anticipated only posing “topless” until a former photographer convinced them to fully disrobe. Denton, a village located near Harleston in Norfolk, has a population of approximately 320, including around 100 adult men. Despite its size, an organizer reported that they had to decline volunteers. The “Dreamboys” calendar was created to generate funds for Addenbrooke’s and Royal Papworth hospitals, both situated in Cambridgeshire. Paul Wilby, 62, a charity fundraiser and semi-retired builder, stated that while the village had previously organized several charity events, they “wanted a finale, so I asked if anyone was interested in taking their tops off.” Mr. Wilby added, “But our photographer Mark went a bit further and made them get everything off, which, amazingly, they all volunteered to do.” He also noted, “We were turning people away, there were so many keen to do it.” Historically, the village has accumulated funds for Addenbrooke’s and Papworth hospitals, in addition to Diabetes UK and international charities, through activities such as sponsored walks, bike rides, tractor runs, and bingo. This marks their inaugural nude calendar, which was executed tastefully, ensuring the men’s modesty was strategically maintained. For Mr. Wilby, the effort to raise funds for the hospitals held personal significance. His son had a life-threatening condition and received treatment at Papworth, “who came up with a new surgery to basically unblock the blood clots in his lungs and open up his arteries.” Mr. Wilby recounted, “He went from a life expectancy of ‘could die tomorrow’ to a normal life span.” Phil Luton, 77, a model featured in the calendar, stated that the prospect of posing nude “didn’t worry me at all.” He explained, “I trusted Mark the photographer, that he would get me in a good pose.” When asked if he was concerned about being seen by a passer-by while nude, he replied, “I wasn’t really, to be honest. I haven’t got a lot to show, really.” He added, “I’ve been in and out of hospitals all this year because I’ve got prostate cancer, so why not?” Mark Richards, 70, a former Daily Mail photographer, relocated to Denton three years prior. His professional experience includes photographing royalty, actors, presidents, and prime ministers. He commented, “This was the best experience of the lot.” Mr. Richards remarked, “Shooting naked men is not an easy task, there are many things that need to be hidden, strategically.” He further noted, “It proved difficult but, you know, it was good fun.” Paul White, director of communications for Addenbrooke’s charitable trust, indicated that donations enable the trust to deliver enhanced care. A year ago, the trust acquired an additional surgical robot for £1.5 million. Funds generated by the calendar, alongside other initiatives undertaken by the village of Denton, would contribute to “raise important money for the hospital.” He commented, “There’s something really nice for staff in the hospital who work really hard, seeing people saying ‘thank you’ in recognition of what the hospital has done for them.”
