Hundreds of individuals donned festive attire for a Santa fun run, successfully collecting funds for various charitable organizations. The event took place on Sunday at The Racecourse in Northampton, orchestrated by four Rotary Clubs situated in Northamptonshire. Participants in the holiday-themed run completed either a 5km (3.1 miles) or a 2.5km (1.5 miles) course. Andrew Cowling, the race director, reported that approximately 200 individuals, all dressed as Father Christmas, were involved. He stated, “It’s the local community supporting local charities.” Mayor and Mayoress, Paul and Mylissa Joyce, also joined the festivities. Paul commented, “It is a great event and of course we had to take part.” He added, “We know that it is so important especially this time of year as many people go without at Christmas, hopefully doing this will help some of those people.” Paul further explained, “It’s obviously a fun run, but we know the bigger picture is to raise as much as you can for charity as it is supporting our local community.” Mylissa remarked, “This event is the icing on the cake for Northampton as just recently we have had so many community events, bringing all of us in this county together.” A group of 13 people participated in memory of their friend, Steve Lewis, who passed away from cancer last year. They managed to raise over £5,000 for the Cynthia Spencer hospice. Steve’s friend Ian said, “That is where Steve spent the last of his life so we knew it would be right to raise the money for them.” He also emphasized, “It is important that these sort of events keep happening.” For news updates from Northamptonshire, follow BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
