After registering 11 goals in 27 league appearances last season, Eberechi Eze was anticipated to be a key performer in the Premier League this campaign. Palace chairman Steve Parish even expressed that he was “astounded” by the lack of transfer interest in Eze during the summer window. Since scoring a notable goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to earn Palace a point, Eze’s contributions had been rather understated, with his team remaining in the bottom three. However, a noticeable improvement in performance from both Eze and Palace was evident at Selhurst Park, which Tottenham struggled to counter. Eze was not the goal-scorer, but his elegant flick to Jean-Philippe Mateta enabled the Frenchman to secure their first three points of the season. With Eddie Nketiah positioned on the bench, Eze exerted considerably more influence in the game, frequently linking up with Mateta. The England international also believed he deserved a penalty after a weaving run through the Spurs defence resulted in him being fouled in the box, but the referee disregarded the appeals. Eze will be looking to build on this strong performance when Palace visits Molineux to play Wolves on Saturday.
