The Cardiff Devils, who currently lead the Elite League with 10 victories from their 12 matches this season, have announced the acquisition of netminder Taz Burman. The 27-year-old Canadian spent his previous two seasons with Elite League competitors Guildford Flames, where he recorded a save rate of 89.6% across 23 games in the 2023-24 season. His addition to the squad comes after both Ben Bowns and Mac Carruth sustained injuries while representing the Devils in the Continental Cup tournament held in Slovakia. Head coach Pete Russell addressed the situation, stating: “When Mac went down on Saturday night [against Vlci Zilina], that was both our starters after Bowns got hurt on Friday. We needed an experienced netminder that was able to come in and play right away.” Russell further remarked, “Taz is a solid goalie that knows the league. He has been on the ice back in Canada waiting for a team like us to call him and get his season started.” He also confirmed, “We signed the contract on Tuesday morning, and he was on a plane seven hours later. He is excited about the opportunity to be in Cardiff.” Burman is set to be available for the Welsh side’s upcoming fixture against Glasgow Clan, scheduled for Friday at 19:30 GMT at Cardiff’s Vindico Arena.
