A 78-year-old man, Surendra Patel, who had been charged with murder following the discovery of a woman’s body at a residence, passed away while in custody. Mr. Patel was taken into custody in October after the woman, reported to be in her 70s, was found at the Aqua Place property in Rugby, Warwickshire. Authorities stated that Mr. Patel, also a resident of Aqua Place, died in a hospital on October 31. He was being detained at HMP Hewell in Redditch at the time of his death. A spokesperson for the Prison Service commented: “As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.” Officers from Warwickshire Police had been summoned to the residence around 09:40 BST on October 8.
