Coleraine manager Dean Shiels stated he has observed “a massive change in the mentality” within his squad, as the team secured consecutive wins by defeating Dungannon Swifts with a score of 4-1. The home side’s triumph was sealed by a hat-trick from Matthew Shevlin, complemented by an own-goal from Danny Wallace, which propelled them to fifth position in the league standings. “We are delighted with the win,” Shiels conveyed to BBC Sport NI. He added, “There seems to be a really good momentum with the performances and results at the moment. We knew it would be very difficult, Dungannon haven’t been conceding goals.” Shiels further commented, “I have noticed a massive change in the mentality of the players and that’s what’s getting us points at the moment.” He concluded, “We have loads of quality and there are loads of patterns we are working on at the moment but the main thing that wins games is mentality in both boxes and we had that today.” Striker Shevlin has now scored 10 goals this campaign, making him the second-highest goalscorer in the league. “We have to play to Shevlin’s strengths, and I think you have seen that in the last two games with his goals against Glentoran and his three today,” Shiels remarked. He continued, “If we keep putting the ball in the box, there is no better striker in the league for being in the right place and having that desire and quality to score.” Shiels concluded his assessment of Shevlin by stating, “He is a manager’s dream to have in his team and I’m talking about when the other team has the ball. “If people focus on Shevlin when the other team has he ball, his work rate is phenomenal.”
