North Northamptonshire council is proposing an investment exceeding £180m across various sectors over the next four years, encompassing digital and electric vehicle infrastructure. Within its forthcoming budget, the council intends to allocate £43.6m to highways, £36.6m to housing, £27.9m to schools, £8.1m to disability facilities, £8.2m to digital infrastructure, and £2.6m to electric vehicle infrastructure. A report scheduled for discussion on 19 December will put forward a £400m budget for 2025-26, alongside presenting the medium-term financial plan for the subsequent three years. Jason Smithers, the authority’s leader, characterized the budget as “prudent”. Beyond the £180m investment, the council has committed an additional £51m to strengthen essential services. This allocation includes £29.2m for adult social care and £6.2m for children’s services, aiming to address the rising demand for these crucial provisions. Consistent with government allowances, the council is putting forward a 4.99% increase in council tax, with 2% specifically designated for adult social care. This proposed increase is projected to generate an estimated £11m million annually, according to the council. The draft budget is set to undergo public consultation from 19 December until 24 January 2025. Following this consultation period, the council will convene on 6 February 2025 to finalise the proposals before their presentation to the full council on 20 February 2025.
