The introduction of parking fees at five popular scenic locations around Leeds is anticipated to cost the council £1.9 million, as funds are required for ticket machines and resurfacing work. Charges are scheduled to be implemented at Otley Chevin, Golden Acre Park in Bramhope, Middleton Park, Roundhay Park, and Temple Newsam. Leeds City Council indicated that the money would be utilized for creating parking bay markings, installing cycle stands, and erecting signage. A council report stated: “The aim of this investment is to make the sites more welcoming, accessible, safer and easier to navigate and park in.” The council decided to impose these charges, which will be £4 for a full day, to generate revenue, as it must save £63.9 million to balance its budget this financial year. Nevertheless, the investment is expected to facilitate easier access for blue badge holders, who will not incur charges, and provide more marked spaces across the five sites, as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. The report further added: “There will be investment in pedestrian access and cycle parking, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure will be considered and implemented where viable.” The new ticket machines are planned to be solar powered.
