Cornwall Council has released recommendations regarding acceptable items for food waste bins. The council specified that items such as tea bags, vegetable peelings, eggshells, and banana skins are suitable for placement in the food waste caddies. While bin lining is not mandatory, the council indicated that compostable liners or old newspapers could be utilized. “Once it’s full, just empty it into your outdoor green food waste bin and lock the handle,” the council advised. It also stated, “Please don’t put your silver caddy inside your outdoor food waste bin.” The phased implementation of a new household waste and recycling system in Cornwall, encompassing food waste collections, commenced in January. Mid west Cornwall, identified as the final region to implement the new bins, is scheduled to transition to the new system in 2025. For updates, follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook, and Instagram.
