DFDS has affirmed its participation in the recently launched tender by the Government of Jersey, which seeks proposals for a ferry service exclusively for Jersey. The company stated its readiness to commence ferry operations to Jersey starting 25 March 2025, contingent on securing the contract. This week, DFDS managers are present on the island to engage with local stakeholders regarding the new tender, following the unsuccessful outcome of a previous joint tender process that included Guernsey. The company indicated that Jersey authorities had requested it to solicit expressions of interest from tour operators concerning their preferred summer sailings. This information is intended to be provided to the ultimate recipient of the contract. Deputy Montfort Tadier, the Scrutiny leader, commented that his panel intends to meticulously review the events once the process concludes. Filip Hermann, VP BU Channel & Baltics for DFDS, stated: “We understand the importance of a safe, reliable and efficient ferry service for islanders and businesses in Jersey, and we are confident in our ability to deliver this service. “As outlined in our initial proposal, for which we are yet to receive clarifications regarding the reasons for our disqualification, we will utilize vessels from our fleet and leverage our extensive experience from other routes in our network. “We are fully prepared and capable of taking over the ferry service if we are awarded the tender, and we are looking forward to working with all stakeholders.” DFDS also mentioned that it had been in discussions with both the Government of Jersey and the States of Guernsey over recent months. These discussions aimed to prepare for potential contingency operations and ensure the continuity of essential freight and passenger services for island residents, in the event that the incumbent operator is unable to fulfill its obligations before March 2025.
