Arun District Council, situated in West Sussex, has announced its intention to introduce a new mobile application aimed at simplifying parking procedures in two of its town centres. The council indicated that this app will eliminate the requirement for motorists parking in Littlehampton and Bognor Regis to utilize two distinct physical discs. The application will enable users to pay for parking at three specific car parks in Littlehampton: Manor House, St Martins, and Anchor Springs. Similarly, it will facilitate payments at three car parks in Bognor Regis: Hothamton, Fitzleet, and Lyon Street. The system is designed to permit a two-hour parking duration in each designated car park, limited to one instance per day. The app is scheduled to become operational on 1 January 2025. The council stated that it will provide customers with the option to purchase additional parking hours remotely, thereby removing the necessity of returning to their parked vehicles. It was further noted that physical parking discs will remain available for purchase. These can be obtained from local retailers, as well as at the Civic Centre in Littlehampton and Bognor Regis Town Hall on specific designated days, at an annual cost of £6. Councillor Sue Wallsgrove commented: “We believe that having a virtual disc to make parking easier, as well as a physical disc, meets everyone’s needs.” She continued, “We know there is an increase in cost but we believe this is still excellent value and supports people visiting our town centres for minimal cost.”
